The Loneliness Epidemic: “Why Success Feels Empty’’

Table of Content

You have, or rather, let me say we have today everything we’re supposed to have and perhaps even more than enough. Cars, social media, the internet, and every possible convenience a person could need, we’ve acquired it all. Every single thing that promises a luxurious, comfortable, almost peaceful life. Yet, despite all of this, what do we find? Nothing but loneliness Epidemic.

In your heart, in some corner of it, and in my heart and in the hearts of our youth, after gaining everything, even after reaching a significant milestone in life, even after fulfilling our dreams, what remains? Loneliness, just loneliness.

Why do I feel lonely even when surrounded by people?

This loneliness Epidemic reflects our failure. It reveals our insistence on wanting more and more for our ego, our greed. On this earth, countless great people have been born: those who wrote profound books, thousands of authors, and thousands of revolutionaries who did such extraordinary work that nothing new is really needed for us to learn. And yet, despite all this, we remain the same as we were before evolution, only the hair has disappeared from our bodies, and we’ve begun to walk on two feet. Beyond that, our nature remains unchanged.

The same greed, ego, hunger, stubbornness, anger, and loneliness that perhaps weren’t there before but exist now. So have we really created a great, comfortable age, or have we just kept adding more and more weight to our hearts and minds in the name of progress? This epidemic of loneliness isn’t affecting just you; the whole world is struggling with it. And me too, I’m no different from you.

Why does achieving goals feel empty?

We are all caught in such a whirlpool where, despite having so much, we are still searching for something more, where, instead of peace, we chase status and power, even knowing they won’t bring us peace or bring the happiness we truly seek. And yet, we still want everything.

It’s deeply saddening to think that as we, the youth, as human beings, keep moving forward, keep achieving more success, the epidemic of loneliness eats away at our hearts just as much.

The Youth Struggle: Dreams vs Reality & Loneliness Epidemic

A young person, just starting their life, sets a great goal for themselves and pursues it with all their effort. Yet, nothing turns out the way they imagined. Despite all the work, the countless nights spent striving, the happiness, inner peace, and sense of self-respect they hoped for never truly came.

How to overcome the loneliness Epidemic

I don’t want us, or our future children, our next generation, to live through nights weighed down by this loneliness epidemic.

But simply wanting it won’t change anything. To create change:

  • We need to take action.
  • We need to understand
  • where we’ve gone wrong,
  • where we are making mistakes,
  • where we should go, where we should stop,
  • where we’ve already been, and
  • where we haven’t.

Only then can we set a meaningful goal for ourselves and, after achieving it, truly feel inner respect, peace, and happiness.

I am ready for this change. If you are too, continue reading this article. If you’re not, stop here—because beyond this point, it’s not just about reading; it’s about understanding and learning to change, which is not easy. If you’re ready, then let’s move forward.

Deep definition of the loneliness epidemic

What is the Loneliness Epidemic?

The loneliness epidemic is more deadly than any disease. Every university, every research study, is showing clearly that more than anything else, people, young, old, children, and women, are suffering from this loneliness epidemic. And if we want to fight it, protect ourselves, and ultimately overcome it, we first need to understand what it really is.

Being Alone vs Feeling Lonely

The epidemic of loneliness does not simply mean being alone. Being alone can be a very good thing—if you are happy in your own company, nothing can be better than that. Knowledge spreads in solitude. Creation happens in solitude. Respect is earned in solitude. And new worlds are born in solitude.

That’s why we need to change the way we define the epidemic of loneliness.

True Meaning of Loneliness

Loneliness means emotional disconnection. Simply put, it’s when you cannot connect with yourself, when you cannot hear the voice of your own heart, when you cannot understand yourself.

The epidemic of loneliness is about losing yourself to yourself.

How to find joy in small things

Finding Joy in Small Things

You may have noticed that sometimes, without reason, small things start bringing joy. I’ll give you an example: when it rains, I feel so much happiness that I can hardly describe it. When I see a forest full of trees and feel that calm, it’s indescribably beautiful. A simple cup of morning tea makes me happy. Talking with friends feels like the moment will never end. Even a boring meal can give satisfaction.

Alone but Not Lonely

We show respect to others, of course, but when we are with ourselves, we feel a sense of respect for our own being. I can be alone yet not feel lonely, while many people in a crowd can feel lost in silence.

Questions to Reflect On

Do you remember the last time you felt genuinely excited about something? Do you remember when you laughed freely? Do you remember feeling that quiet, joyful vibration inside yourself from a simple cup of coffee or tea? Do you remember a small moment that made you feel alive, even without smiling outwardly?

When Small Joys Become Enough

When these small joys begin to bring more happiness than even the biggest achievements, a person stays happy—whether they have everything or almost nothing. They can be joyful in a crowd, and even when alone, the epidemic of loneliness cannot touch them.

Happiness Comes from Within

Joy in watching the sunset, joy in watching the sunrise, joy in the rain, joy in autumn leaves, joy in seeing flowers fall, and joy in watching children eat ice cream, a smile when your own ice cream melts and falls, replacing irritation with a small happiness. Joy in sharing tiny little things with others.

When happiness begins to arise naturally from these small moments—not forced, not deliberate—it stays. If joy and love could be forced, everyone in the world would be happy today, because there is no shortage of power or wealth. Yet, the truth is, the world is not happy.

By now, you must have realized that happiness is not outside—it’s within. If, despite having everything, you are still not happy, it’s not that the world is wrong; something is off inside you. You haven’t nourished yourself internally. And when the problem lies within, the healing must also come from within.

5 Life-Changing Insights to Overcome Loneliness Epidemic

I want to share with you seven life-changing insights. After this, your disconnection from yourself will start to heal. You will begin to truly connect with yourself, and a transformation will begin from within—one that will gradually show outwardly. Even a morning cup of tea or coffee will bring you joy, the sound of rain or music will uplift you, and life will start to feel incredibly light. All the stress you’ve been carrying on your shoulders, in your mind and heart, without reason, will begin to fade.

So let’s do it together, let’s release the stress.

ACCESS YOUR FREE TIME

How do you spend your free time? If I share from my own experience, I used to spend it on social media, reels, endlessly scrolling, and YouTube videos, or doing nothing at all, yet my phone was always in my hand, doing something. The thing is, we try to escape our free time. We want it to pass quickly, and in doing so, we end up wasting some of the most important moments of life. Even if your conscious mind isn’t paying attention, your inner self knows what you’re doing. Your subconscious mind knows exactly what you’re losing.

Checking your phone repeatedly, watching reels, scrolling through YouTube—these aren’t inherently bad. But it’s important to give some time to your day consciously. You don’t have to spend every free moment on trivial things.

Whenever you get free time, try sitting quietly for a moment—whether in your room, at the office, or wherever you are. Pay attention to your surroundings. Look at the sky if you’re outside, or the ceiling if you’re inside. Observe the objects around you—the table, the chair, pictures, trees, mountains—whatever is in sight. Just take a moment to notice.

The moments you call “free time” are part of your life—they are not some bonus. They are a part of the most important moments of your life. When you waste them on meaningless things, your heart quietly cries, and then you wonder why nothing makes you happy, why nothing feels fulfilling.

Think of it this way: if you had a diamond and lost it, could you sleep peacefully for a few days? No, because the diamond was precious—and losing it took your peace along with it. Your free time is even more valuable than a diamond. When you waste it, and your heart starts to ache over a trivial stone, it keeps you restless and can turn into a negative part of your life. How could you possibly think you can stay happy by wasting the most precious moments of your life—the moments you need the most—on trivial things? Even a child knows that losing something valuable brings no happiness.

From today, start valuing your free time. Learn from it, flow with it. There is no “free time”—every moment is yours, and every moment is precious. Respect it, because once it’s gone, in the end, you’ll look back and realize how unforgettable these moments were.

GRATITUDE

Imagine you’ve created something truly extraordinary. You are an artist—a painter, a writer, or anything else—and you’ve crafted a masterpiece. When you finally share it with the world, no one applauds you, no one appreciates your effort, and no one says “thank you” for your incredible creation. How would that make you feel?

When you don’t feel gratitude for life, when you don’t show respect or say “thank you” to life and the universe, life and the universe respond in the same way—you feel it in return.

But remember: by making life and the universe “unhappy,” how can you ever overcome loneliness? How can you protect yourself from the epidemic of loneliness?

Those who don’t know how to give thanks never find happiness. They never find peace. They never feel true enthusiasm.

Be thankful for this life. You are living as a human being, while countless other species struggle every day just to survive. You have been given everything—even a status comparable to the divine—yet you fail to express gratitude toward life and the universe.

All you do is complain, complain, complain. Have you ever truly said “thank you” to the universe? To yourself?

Until you start saying thank you to yourself and the universe, nothing will change. The root of your loneliness epidemic is sadness, caused by your own relationship with life and the entire universe.

If you want to change your life, start by changing your thinking.

WITHOUT PROFIT

The whole world is running after profit—PROFIT, PROFIT, PROFIT. Nothing else seems to matter. Education is pursued for profit, knowledge is acquired for profit, respect is earned for profit, and even life itself is lived for profit.

Is there anything in human existence above profit?

Have you ever picked up a guitar and just played, even without skill? Have you ever danced freely, written a poem or a story, or drawn a painting—just for the joy of it? Most of us haven’t, because there’s no profit in it.

Instead, we chase careers as doctors, engineers, or in IT, developing skills only because there’s profit in them.

We have become blind to everything else by the mentality of profit.

If I speak about myself, my first two books—which I didn’t like at all—I wrote with the mindset that they would sell a lot and make me a millionaire so I wouldn’t have to do anything else in life. Yes, that’s exactly how I thought. And what happened? I ended up writing books I truly didn’t like.

Yet, those books shaped my character as a writer and played an important role in my journey. But ever since I stopped writing for profit, life has entered my words. My writing now carries meaning, emotion, and authenticity.

I am ready to write my whole life—without any profit.

Sometimes I go to the park in the morning—not to stay fit, but simply because I feel like it. And when I feel like it, I do it. Sometimes I sleep for too long—36 hours at a stretch—because I want to. I know it’s not “right,” but occasionally breaking free from utility or profit is what makes us human.

I’ve done countless things in my life that had nothing to do with profit. I love painting; I don’t even try to learn it properly—I don’t need to show it to anyone. I just create what comes naturally. If we talk about skill, I can’t even paint an apple correctly, yet I love painting. There are hundreds of such things I do that have zero connection to profit, yet I do them because I am alive.

Are you truly alive?

History is Boring

History is probably on your list of boring subjects—and for most people, it is. But here’s the thing: history is extremely important to know. You don’t need to study it in extreme depth—just knowing it is enough.

When you understand history, the future becomes clearer. Dreams become clearer. Your direction in life becomes clearer because you know where you’ve come from.

You should definitely read and understand history. Learn about the people who made revolutionary changes, and also learn from the mistakes of those who made life-changing errors. That is exactly what history is for—learning. For me, the definition of history is simple: it’s something I can learn from. Whether it’s true or false doesn’t matter much. And it shouldn’t matter to you either. The value of history lies in the knowledge it gives you.

Don’t glorify history. There’s nothing to be proud of in it—but there is a lot to learn.

—Taarin

You’ve all heard the story of the tortoise and the hare. There’s nothing to be proud of in the tortoise and no reason to be angry at the hare. Similarly, there’s no point in being proud of a historical figure or of history itself. What matters is learning from it.

Learn from history; learn from the mistakes of the people in it. If you want, you can feel pride—but learning should always come first. I am who I am today because I learned from history and its characters. Next in line is you.

“Between Water and Sky”: Comparison poison

The cloud understands the importance of the mountain, and the mountain understands the cloud; But a human with a grand mind-wire feels jealous, weeping bitterly.

Comparison may seem like an ordinary thing to all of us, but it is not; it is a kind of poison that keeps hollowing us out from within.

We not only nurture hatred toward ourselves, but we also begin to see the world as our enemy. It is essential for our lives that we can smile at others’ success and remain self-controlled in our own success.

But these days, people keep comparing themselves with others over the smallest things. They don’t try to understand the reasons why that person is in that position or what they have done to get there. Instead of learning from them, they grow envious and, in their inner mind, start seeing that person as an enemy. This does no harm to the other person, but it causes them to lose their own peace.

If you want to reach the peak in life, stop comparing yourself with others, stop being envious, and learn from them whenever you get the chance—both from their successes and their failures. This is what will move you forward toward your dreams and bring you true fulfillment.

I have much more to say, but for today, this is more than enough. And the one who does not understand even this—give them all the knowledge in the world, and they will still remain unaware.

In life, keep learning and understanding, and stay ready to reach the highest peak. And most importantly, always maintain faith in yourself—this is your truest and best companion in life.
