Deep thought: One day, I will die, and the people supporting me will leave just 30 seconds after my death.
What is a “Dopamine Detox”?
If I give a simple answer, it is a necessity. In today’s era, a “Dopamine Detox” is one of the most important things.
Young people no longer seem truly young. Children are drifting away from childhood. We are unable to focus on anything, even for a short time. And this is something we must take very seriously. What kind of future are we trying to build? A future where conversations last only 30 seconds—spoken or heard? This is extremely wrong. We, you, and the coming generations must understand how important focus is. Yet every day, we are killing this very focus. Our attention span has dwindled to next to nothing.
We all must take responsibility to discuss this topic openly, find solutions, and treat it as a serious ailment. It is no less dangerous than global warming. We all need a “Dopamine Detox.”
“It is no less dangerous than global warming.”
None of us can sit without a phone for even ten minutes. We are unable to focus our attention anywhere; indeed, this is precisely why we are unable to truly live in the present moment today. There was a time when we used to read books for hours on end, losing ourselves completely in the stories. At night, instead of scrolling through our phones, we would drift off to sleep while listening to the tales told by our grandmothers.
This “disease” is not only harming our productivity but also damaging our relationships.
Who sits with their family in the evening nowadays? Who has breakfast together as a family in the morning? I haven’t seen it—even in my own home. My younger brother and others are also affected by this problem. Someone is busy on YouTube, while someone else keeps scrolling through reels.
We all need to improve. We need to understand how dangerous this problem is and why we should fear the death of attention span.

Why is attention span dying?
In my view, attention span is not dying on its own. Big companies are designing their apps and services so we cannot focus on one thing. They want us unable to stay away from their products for even a second, whether it is Instagram’s algorithm, YouTube’s system, fast-food delivery apps, games, or movies.
Everywhere, our attention span is being attacked. A huge amount of money is spent on this. Large teams work constantly to figure out how to control the minds of users—you and me. They don’t want us to focus on one thing. And when such powerful organizations want something, we often become helpless.
But we may be helpless, we don’t have to break. I don’t know about others, but I refuse to break. We need prevention. We should limit the importance we give to YouTube, Instagram reels, fast food apps, games, and mobile usage to a fixed amount of time, no more than that. Only then can we use our energy in the right direction.
We are also witnessing just how few truly influential figures have emerged over the past twenty years.
We all need to come together and take sensible action regarding this issue. We need a “Dopamine Detox.”
“Dopamine Detox”: The Essential Thing
In today’s world—where trends shift with every passing moment, and we are all forced to bear the brunt of the many detrimental consequences this entails—Dopamine detox is essential not only to recognize these effects but also to learn the strategies to avoid them.
We need to be less active on our mobile devices and, instead, truly savor every moment. Time is precious; it is never truly “free.” Therefore, during your spare moments, take the time to observe yourself and your surroundings, for time is immensely valuable, and its true worth is often realized only after it has slipped away.
Now, let’s talk about some steps that can help us recover our attention span.
1. 30 Minute Rule: Start Small
Small things bring big changes. Every day, spend 30 minutes doing something productive without any distractions, such as:
- Writing
- Reading
- Singing
- Walking
- Painting
Do whatever your heart desires without distractions, without your phone, and without thinking about anything else; simply be with yourself.
The world stands with those who stand by themselves.

2. Dopamine Reset Morning
Your entire day is shaped by how your morning begins. If your morning starts with distractions, how can you stay focused throughout the day? If you begin your day with anger, how can you remain calm and enjoy every moment?
Morning is a hope. It is a victory that you have been given one more day.
Make your morning magnificent by following these steps:
- Wake up early (with purpose)
- Follow a 1-hour No Phone Rule in the morning
- Activate your body (Yoga / Workout or whatever you like)
- Practice meditation in silence
- Do 5-minute journaling
- Plan your top 3 tasks
- Connect with Nature and Sunlight
Following these practices is extremely important in today’s time. It is not just about waking up early, but waking up with a purpose—knowing what you need to do today. What tasks were left incomplete yesterday that you can finish today? What can you do today to make your tomorrow better?
The more time you can spend after waking up—without your phone and free from distractions, the more beneficial it will be for you. Keep your body active—do yoga, go to the gym, or take a walk—whatever works for you, but stay active. What is the use of focus if your body itself is not active?
Take care of everything else, too, but most importantly, experience the beauty of nature. Feel the sunlight. Feel the gentle, cool morning breeze. There is no greater peace than this.
3. Being Bored Is Good
For a “Dopamine Detox,” being bored is good. For your health, being bored is better, and to change something, being bored is actually great.
I always say those who never feel bored never truly grow.
It means they are never able to do something great. One day, in such boredom, a person sat under a tree and went on to carry the entire field of physics on his shoulders. In such moments of boredom, someone gives the theory of black holes. It is in boredom that great inventions and the expansion of art take place. It is in boredom that I am writing this article for you. And it is in boredom that you are reading it. So I would say being bored is a good thing. Be bored.
At Last About Dopamine Detox
In the end, I will simply say that we need to take our attention span seriously. We all need a “dopamine detox.”
Remember this: you, or someone close to you, your brother, your son, your friend, your father, anyone, could be a person who has the potential to change the world.
But if they remain lost in scrolling reels, we may lose a truly great individual.
We must make ourselves aware and also inform the people close to us about this serious issue. This is our responsibility. This is our duty.
